Having your senior photos taken is a huge milestone for many students. Not only does it capture a very specific time in each young student’s life, but it’s also the official marking point of moving into adulthood. Senior year is an exciting time for students and an emotional time for the parents.
This particular senior session was a bit more special for me than some. I’ve know Bryn’s mother Mandy since we were in elementary school in central Montana. Both of her parents were teachers and only spent a short time in our small community before moving on to a different school… but fast forward to 20+ years later and we stumbled into each other at the Boise Towne Square Mall. We’ve kept in touch and I’ve photographed Bryn on one other occasion to help her with her acting headshots.
Deep down I know the two of us are old enough to have high school seniors, but photographing a child of someone you’ve known since childhood can be a bit bittersweet. It’s not only a reminder of this same time in my life, but it’s a reality check on how much time, and how many experiences I’ve had since then.
Bryn’s Senior Photos
Bryn knew she wanted to have her senior photos taken in downtown Boise’s Freak Alley, but Mandy was hoping for something a bit more traditional. I helped make a compromise by suggesting we start taking photos at Freak Alley, but then move down to the Boise Basque Block area for a more “traditional” look. The Basque Block and the 6th and Main area have quite a few older brick buildings, along with interesting doorways, fences, and landscaping to help achieve the more traditional photo look Mandy was hoping for.
Below I’ve posted a few of Mandy and Bryn’s favorite photos. These all reflect Bryn’s quiet personality well. I hope that in 20 years when she sits down to look at these photos again, she’ll have fond memories of this very special time in life. ~ Brenda
