This Boise senior portrait session moved through three locations, creating a variety of senior photos for Sean and his family to select from. The session combined downtown Boise’s Freak Alley, the historic Boise Train Depot, and the Boise River corridor to bring together urban texture, architecture, and natural Idaho scenery.
Freak Alley
Our first stop was Freak Alley in downtown Boise. This iconic location provides a bold urban backdrop filled with graffiti art and layered color. Over my years of photographing seniors in the Treasure Valley, this location has been a popular choice for many of the high school seniors I’ve photographed. It offers a range of vivid colors and a modern, creative feel within a compact downtown setting. In Sean’s case, Freak Alley was a natural fit for his casual, vintage-inspired style.

Boise Train Depot
From there, the session moved to the Boise Train Depot, one of my favorite locations in Boise for portrait sessions. The grounds offer a variety of backdrops starting with the historic depot itself. The Spanish-style architecture features clean lines, arched doorways, iron window grates, and paver stone walkways surrounding the building. Nearby Platt Gardens adds even more variety, with green grass, mature trees, a koi pond that attracts ducks and geese, and layered stone landscaping that works well for portraits. In contrast to Freak Alley, the Train Depot offers a more timeless setting, making it a strong complement for senior portrait sessions that include multiple looks and locations.

Boise River
The final portion of Sean’s photo session took place along the Boise River in Eagle, ID. This location offered up a lot of soft natural light and an open space. Creating a very relaxed feel to the portraits. The river corridor Sean chose is a popular choice for senior photos because it has easy access and beautiful scenic backdrops. I find that parents and students appreciate this location to contrast downtown photo shoots.

What Sean Wore
Sean’s wardrobe choices leaned into a casual style with vintage baggy denim and simple t-shirts. His clothing choices, in combination with the various photo locations helped keep the focus of the photos on Sean and his personality.

Our Thoughts
At Leap Photography we encourage seniors to be photographed in settings that reflect their personalities. If a senior is outdoorsy it’s recommended to select natural settings, whereas a skateboarder or gamer would be more comfortable in a downtown photo shoot or maybe the photo studio. Your senior portrait sessions should reflect your personality and Boise has a variety of locations to select from
