When you think of headshots, you might picture corporate suits or creative professionals, but headshots are for everyone—even those in agriculture! Farmers, ranchers, and producers may trade in the fields instead of boardrooms, but they still need to represent their businesses or organizations professionally.
Idaho Beef Council
This past year, I had the pleasure of photographing the board members of the Idaho Beef Council. These hardworking beef producers from all corners of Idaho gather regularly to discuss the industry and guide its future. When they decided to refresh their website, they called me in to help with updated headshots.
Their meeting was being held at a conference room in a local Boise hotel. I met them in the hotel courtyard. It was a perfect outdoor location to help showcase their unique, casual style. Unlike the buttoned-up look of bankers or executives, their everyday workwear includes jeans, boots, and, of course, hats!
Hats are an iconic symbol of the American West, but they can pose as a challenge to photographers. Hats can cast shadows across faces, which isn’t ideal for headshots. To tackle this, I came prepared with a variety of lighting options and made adjustments on the fly to bring out their features—especially their eyes.
Why Headshots Matter For Your Organization
If you’re looking to enhance your organization’s online presence, professional headshots are a game-changer. They give your audience a glimpse of the people behind the scenes, helping to build trust and connection. When prospective clients or members see the faces of your leadership, it creates a sense of familiarity and credibility.
Plus, headshots add valuable content to your website, keeping visitors engaged longer. And the longer someone stays on your site, the better the chances they’ll take action—whether that’s signing up, making a purchase, or joining your cause.
