Memorial Day is the official start of summer for many families around the U.S. This start of summer also marks the beginning of wedding season around the nation. Couples everywhere are finalizing their wedding plans and preparing for their big day. If you are among those who are tying the knot this summer there is one thing you can do in advance that can “save your bacon” on the day of your wedding. Pack an emergency wedding day kit.
As a wedding photographer I’ve been witness to many chaotic moments. Sometimes it’s a result of an item forgotten at home… and other times a mishap occurs and an item such as a band-aid is no where to be found. Most of these issues can easily be resolved by having a kit of supplies at your fingertips.
With this in mind…here is a brief list of items frequently needed on your wedding day.
- Black socks (include both adult & boys sizes)
- Band-aids
- Blister treatment
- Allergy Pills
- Eye drops
- Pain Reliever
- Tums, pepto bismol etc. (you never know when someone might not be feeling well or nerves have just gotten the better of you.)
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray (evening weddings in Idaho require a little extra skin protection)
- Sewing Kit. (Include scissors, needle + white & black thread)
- Spot Remover (if the ring bearer dumps grape soda on his white shirt… you’ll be glad you this. Believe me it can and has happened!)
- Tampons/panty liners
- Baby wipes (these are especially helpful with the little ones in the bridal party)
Extra items to consider
- Safety Pins
- Bobby Pins
- Deodorant
- Hairspray
- Nail file
- Nail clippers
- Tweezers
- Corsage pins
- Lint roller (make sure the guys have this one)
- Lighter (preferably a BBQ lighter…..for lighting candles)
Of course many more items could be thrown into your emergency kit….but as I mentioned before the items above are the ones I see couples most frequently scrambling to find.
In the end….just remember you want to have FUN at your wedding. So… don’t sweat the small stuff. Just remember your guests only remember if they had a great time at your wedding. They won’t remember if a candle wasn’t lit or you had a run in your stocking. So….if something happens, and you don’t have an item from above to fix the problem, take a deep breath and remember “I’m getting married today!”
