Today I’m looking back to an elopement ceremony I photographed in February. With today’s temperatures in Boise getting ready to hit 100 degrees, I’m feeling a little nostalgic for winter.
The Elopement
I’ve been sitting on these photos for a while, per the request of the bride and groom…allowing them ample time to announce their nuptials to family and friends. Why….because they snuck away for a weekend getaway, and got hitched along the way. Their plan was to share the good news with everyone by face to face announcements or a phone call. They wanted to keep the announcement personal and did not want people to find out through a random social media post.
As some of you who live in the Boise area may remember, we were in the middle of what is now being referred to as “snowpocalypse” at the end of January. We had more snow than we knew what to do with… yet, Jennifer, Mark, and their four children traveled into town all the way from Elko Nevada just to secretly elope. They love the snow and they love Boise, so a weekend getaway with their children to elope and spend time together as a family was a win, win.
Jennifer and Mark exchanged vows inside the Castle Gardens venue in Kuna, Idaho. The only people in attendance were their four children, the officiant, the venue owner, and myself. All four of their children were not only witnesses, but they were also the bridal party.
The wedding ceremony itself was heartfelt and intimate with handwritten vows and plenty of tissue and hugs to go around. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, including my own. After the ceremony, everyone stayed around to capture a few photos of the big day before heading out to a celebration meal in downtown Boise.
