Amanda + Mateo = Married | Boise Wedding Photographers

It’s once again summer…. and around here that means it is wedding and portrait season.  I’m spending many of my weekends documenting the celebration of two families becoming one and I’m having an absolute ball.  I mean seriously,  there’s nothing much better than being surrounded by happy people who are celebrating and having a good time.

One of these joyous occasions took place this past Memorial day weekend.  Amanda and Mateo said their “I do’s” on May 24th at the Water’s Edge Event Center.  Water’s Edge is a relatively new venue located in Eagle Idaho….just around the corner from Bardenay.  They were surrounded by their family and closest friends.

Congratulations Amanda & Mateo!

Event Decor | Boise event photographers

I attend a number of different events ranging from weddings to corporate dinners.  Some events are very sterile and have no decoration at all.  Others are elaborate and beautiful and you just want to sit in the middle of it and soak in all the incredible ideas that the decor companies have come up with.

When the American Heart Association of Idaho decided to start “Idaho Goes Red” week…..they needed to call in some help and hire someone with amazing vision for their grand finale of the week… the V.I.P. dinner and awards banquet.  They began working with Delicate Designs and The Wedding Flower Rental Shop a few months before the event.  They all brainstormed ideas and discussed budget restraints, coming up with a simple, yet elegant design for the night.  As you can see… the theme was red…..and more red!

I thought the decor was gorgeous and absolutely perfect for the event!  So… if you’re in search of a company to come in and help you out with your corporate decor, give either company a call.  They’ll create an amazing atmosphere for your event and within your budget.

VIP Night – Idaho Goes Red Week | Boise Event Photographers

The final event of the first ever ‪#‎IdahoGoesRed‬ week was “V.I.P. night”.  It was a way for the American Heart Association of Idaho to say Thank You to some of their most loyal volunteers and contributors……and Leap Photography was on hand to photograph couples, groups and individuals who came to the event.

TRESCO | Boise Business Head Shot & Portrait Photographers

This spring I’ve been quite busy updating head shots for business men and women throughout the Treasure Valley.  For some people it’s just that they’ve found a new job and the company needs an updated head shot of them for the website.  In other cases I’ve had entire companies in need of an updated look.

In this particular case I packed up the studio and set up on location to photograph head shots, group shots and architectural photos…. which I will show in another post.  When clients come to me for studio head shots we sit down together and select their favorite image while they are in the studio.  Retouched images are then delivered to the client via email within 48 hours in most cases.

For on location shoots such as this one the proofing process varies.  In this particular case I hand delivered paper proofs to the office about one week after the portrait shoot.  Employees reviewed their proofs, selected their favorite image and forwarded their selections to me via email.  A few days later their retouched digital files were delivered.  Ready for use in updating all their printed and online promotional materials.

So… If your company has 5 or more employees in need of a head shot… you might want to consider giving me a call.  I’ll come to you with all the lights, backdrops and camera gear necessary to make you look like a true professional.

Miller Family | Boise Family Photographers

Once the children have grown up, married and moved out of the house it becomes harder and harder to get everyone together for a group photo.   Often times the whole family is not all together at once so the task of updating your portrait is nearly impossible.

This past spring the Miller family knew they’d all be in town for a jam packed weekend of events.  First, a few of them were participating in the Race to Robie Creek and second… they were in town to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony for “Mom’s” new business… Iconic Idaho.

Mom… a.k.a Paula contacted me a few weeks prior to get the family session scheduled into their list of weekend events.  They were looking for a location that would provide quite a bit of textured detail in the background… but were hoping for something different than Kathryn Albertson Park  in downtown Boise.  The family has had photos taken there in the past and they were ready for a change.   In the end we all decided on meeting at the new Scentsy facilities in Meridian.    We knew we’d have a mixture of stone work, modern architecture and beautifully landscaped grounds.  The location exceeded all of our expectations and  we ended up with a few really great shots.

Thank You Miller family for choosing Leap Photography to update your family portrait.

Maraschino Cherries: Home Canning Recipe | Boise Food Photographer

For three summers in a row, my husband and I have picked and received plenty of pie cherries from our friends Matt and Arwen.  They have a huge cherry tree in their backyard which produces more pie cherries than our two household can use.

The first year my husband and I decided to make two different batches of Sour Cherry Jam.  My father in law had just recently given me the “Blue chair Jam Cookbook” by Blue Chair Fruits.  After making a number of tasty marmalade’s throughout the winter months… I was eager to try out on of the jam recipes.

The second year of picking cherries we decided to try a different recipe that was a bit less labor intensive.  We went with a low sugar, fresh fruit jam that required much less cooking time and retained more “fresh” fruit flavor.  The only downfall with this recipe was that the cherry flavor was not nearly as rich nor as intense as the Blue Chair Fruits recipe.

This year, we still have PLENTY of sour cherry jam and decided to come up with another way of preserving cherries for use throughout the year. After much research we decided to make our rendition of Maraschino Cherries.

We came across of ton of recipes for making refrigerator maraschino cherries…  but honestly I don’t have the spare refrigerator space to reserve a section just for canned goods.  After much research, most of which is now “lost in the wind” because my husband took mainly paper notes, we came up with our own recipe for canned, shelf stable maraschino cherries.  These little babies are amazing in drinks or straight out of the jar.

-9lbs pitted pie cherries/washed+cleaned
-1 1/2 cup Whole Food’s Tart Cherry Juice
-1 1/2 cup Leopold Brothers Michigan Cherry Liquor (can be tough to find and a little expensive, but this tastes like pure cherry essence)

-1 1/2 cup Maraschino Liquor (most quality liquor stores carry some sort of Maraschino liquor)

– 3/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

– 1/2 oz almond extract

Maraschino Cherry ingredients

1)  Pit and clean the 9lbs of pie cherries.  Set aside. cherry pitter and cherry

2)  Bring following liquid to a boil

  • 1 1/2 cup Whole Food Tart Cherry Juice
  • 1 1/2 cup Maraschino Liquor
  • -1 1/2 cup Leopold Brothers Michigan Cherry Liquor
  • -2 1/2 cup cane sugar
  • 3/4 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice

boiling pot of cherry juice

3)  REMOVE Boiling liquid from heat

3)  Add 1/2 oz almond extract

4)  Pack cherries tightly into clean+sterilized canning jars  (If you’ve never canned before…. please read up on home canning and jar sanitation before proceeding with this recipe)

5)  Wipe threads and top with clean lids

6)  Process in hot water bath for 20 minutes (this is probably too long in all reality…..but since we made up this recipe….we thought it better to be safe than sorry)

7) Remove from boiling water, and set on cooling racks to cool.

We ended up with about 11 pint jars total.

They might not be the prettiest ever, but they are certainly more appetizing than the plasticky neon red nubbins that topped banana splits when we were kids.

Britney & Justin | Alpine Ponds Event Center | Boise Wedding Photographers

I’m not exactly sure how this wedding slipped through the cracks… but I just realized it somehow never made it to the blog.  Don’t worry… the couple has seen their images and ordered prints, I just never uploaded any images to show all of you some of my favorite images.

In some respects it feels like ages ago since last summer,  but in reality Britney and Justin haven’t even been married a year.  They tied the knot on September 6th at Holy Apostles Church in Meridian Idaho.  After the traditional Catholic ceremony they moved over to  Alpine Ponds Event Center to begin the celebration.

Leap Photography: Boise Studio Photographer

I’ve been talking a lot lately about how Leap Photography can come to you for your portrait needs.  This is especially if you have a number of people in your office who need new head shots.  But what if you only have one or two people in the office who need an updated portrait?  Or maybe you have a soon to be high school senior who needs a photo taken to meet yearbook specs?  You call Leap Photography and set up an in studio session.

My studio is conveniently located off the corner of 27th and Main Street in “West Downtown” Boise.  I have a variety of backdrops available with styles varying from classic to contemporary.  Color selections vary as well.

If you have little ones who need a new portrait….don’t fret… I’m set up to photograph them as well.  In addition to a variety of kid friendly backgrounds… I also have props, just for kids.

When it comes time to view your proofs we’ll we can either take a little extra time to view proofs at the time of your session or you can schedule a second appointment just to review images from your portrait session.  Either way, we’ll go through your images together,  one by one, narrowing the images down to your favorites.  I’ll help you compare pros and cons of images… side by side.  This is a perfect time for me to show you possible cropping enhancements or maybe even just talk about any of your retouching concerns.

Once your favorites have been selected we’ll discuss how you are thinking about displaying your portraits and come up with the ideal print sizes and or combinations to display in your home.

As you can see, my goal is to make the process of selecting your favorite portraits as simple as possible for you.  I’m here to be your helping hand along the way.

So…don’t be shy.  I promise, I don’t bite!  Give me a call!  I’d love to shoot your next portrait.
