Boise Train Depot Wedding Alexy + Shannon | Boise Photographer

This past summer I had the pleasure of photographing the wedding of Alexy and Shannon.  This couple chose the historic Boise Train Depot as their wedding venue.

The Wedding Venue

If you’ve never been to “The Depot” you should plan an afternoon or evening trip to stop in and walk around the grounds.  Not only is this one of Boise’s historic landmarks… it also offers up some of the best views of the downtown Boise skyline.  Stopping in to watch a sunset and take a stroll through Platt Gardens is especially breathtaking during the summer months!

The Couple

This couple originally met on a night out in downtown Boise.  Each was downtown with friends enjoying a night of dancing.  Alexy and Shannon hit it off on the dance floor and had a great conversation on their initial encounter… but each got busy with life and didn’t keep in contact.  Then one fine day, while traveling through Europe…. they ran into each other.  What are the odds of two people from Boise, traveling to Europe at the same time… unbeknownst to the other… of running into each other.  It must be fate!  Right?  This is when the romance really bloomed and you could say the rest is history.

Their Wedding

Alexy and Shannon exchanged their wedding vows outside, on the east side of the Boise Train Depot. The celebration then moved inside.  As you’ll notice from some of the interior photos which are highlighted here later in this post…. this venue is not lacking in architectural details.  The building is large enough to have ample seating for guests as well as a large dance floor.  Plus on a hot summer day, it offers an escape into an air conditioned room for relief from the summer heat.

St. Mark’s Wedding: Casey & Kayla

The 2017 wedding season is in full swing.. and I just realized I still hadn’t featured Casey & Kayla’s gorgeous New Years Eve wedding here on the Leap Photography blog. I know, I know…..it’s June!  How could I let the wedding photos of this gorgeous couple sit for so long without sharing with you?  All I can say is… I’ve been busy and time as slipped away from me!  I truly apologize, but I promise you… these photos are worth your wait.

The Wedding

Kayla and Casey chose to have their ceremony at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Boise and then move the celebration to the historic Boise Train Depot.  As some of you who live in Boise may remember, it was COLD on New Years Eve. We were still in the midst of  “snowpocalypse” and everyone was hoping for an early spring.

Although the temperatures were frigid, Casey and Kayla made the best of it and braved the cold to get some outside shots at both venues.  If you ask me… in the end it was totally worth the numb fingers and toes.  The cool winter light created a great backdrop for this winter wedding and complimented all of the indoor wedding pictures which have poinsettias and Christmas tree decorations as a backdrop.  I also loved their choice of wedding colors.  Navy Blue, Gold and Brown.  Perfect for a New Year’s Eve bash!

Congratulations Kayla & Casey!  I wish you many years of wedded bliss!

St. John’s Wedding: Kevin & Olaia | Honalee Farms | Boise Basque Wedding

Kevin and Olaia’s winter wedding was held at St. John’s Catholic Church which is located in Boise’s historic Northend district.  No other church in Boise compares in beauty.  Stained glass windows adorn the walls.  Marble lines the floors and columns and of course, gold gilding can be found at every turn.

Before taking photos in the church, the couple decided they would like to have a series of wedding pictures taken at the Boise Train Depot.   This historic building and it’s grounds are gorgeous even in winter.  We wandered around outside the building, capturing images with the depot and downtown Boise in the background.

After the wedding ceremony,  guests arrived at Honalee Farm to celebrate the occasion.  Olaia is a Boise native and a part of the Basque community.  If you’re not from Boise, you might not understand what this really means.  The best way I can describe a Basque wedding to an out of towner is to say the words….. “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”.  If you’ve seen the movie…you’ll get the idea.    Lots of family, lots of friends, great food and a wedding steeped in tradition.

The 300+ people in attendance arrived at Honalee Farms for the reception.  Olaia’s family restaurant “Epi’s” catered the event and friends and family danced the night away.  The highlight for me was the traditional Basque musician playing while the Basque dancers performed.

Congrats Kevin & Olaia!  I wish you many years of wedded bliss!

Engagement Photos: Emily + Lloyd | Boise Idaho Photographers

Lloyd, Emily and I met last January and immediately hit it off.   At the time, the two had been engaged for a short while… and were still in the beginning stages of planning their wedding.  In fact, they had just booked their venue and were beginning to think about the task of trying to find a wedding photographer.  We met, and you could say the rest was history.  The three of us fell in love with each others personalities, and I guess you could say a match was made in heaven.  Shortly after our initial meeting, they booked me to capture both their wedding portraits and engagement photos.

We met up early in the spring to capture a few different looks for their engagement pictures. Not only did the couple have a few different outfit changes… but we utilized more than one location around Boise as a backdrop for their portraits.

After all was said and done, Lloyd and Emily used a number of different images from the engagement session in items used in their wedding.  One image was used on their wedding invitation.  Another was displayed on the guest book table at their wedding and a variety of images were incorporated into their wedding website and of course their social media pages.

All in all, the three of us had a blast during their engagement session and their wedding too (photos to be displayed in a later post).  When these two start to giggle, it’s impossible not to laugh with them!  Congratulation go all around to two people who are truly a match made in heaven.

Wedding season is just around the corner | Boise portrait photographers

I know it’s hard to believe…..but it is once again “wedding planning” season.  It’s ideal to get most, if not all of your wedding vendors booked no longer than 6 months before your wedding date.  With that said……this means right now is the ideal time to start finalizing  your wedding plans and and make your final selections on wedding vendors.

If you are still looking for a photographer for your 2015 wedding….give us a call.   Leap Photography does still have some 2015 wedding dates available.

We’d love to chat about your big day!  So….give us a call to set up your complimentary wedding consultation.  You’ll be glad you did.
