This past year I’ve helped a number of Boise businesses update their employee headshots. Companies large and small have reached out, searching for a local photo studio capable of providing quality studio portraits.
Why Studio Headshots?
The main reason companies choose to have all the employees photographed in a studio is consistency. The photography studio allows for duplication of lighting, and background. Creating a similar look for employee headshots every time… no matter what time of year or day they are photographed. The consistency of backgrounds and surroundings is something I can not guarantee with outdoor portraits. An employee being photographed in January may have a snowy background, while the one photographed in July has bright greenery incorporated into their headshot.
Why Choose Leap Photography?
Yes, there are other Boise photographers to select from… but Leap Photography is one of the few photographers in Boise with a photography studio. I also specialize in headshots for business.

It was an honor to be the Boise Photographer asked to capture photos for promotion of great non-profit event… Community Baby Shower. In June I had the pleasure of volunteering my photography skills to this non-profit. The photographs I created were used in print, web and TV promotions to help raise awareness about the item drive.
What Is The “Community Baby Shower”?
This community-wide event was designed to collect much needed baby supplies to help at-risk mothers give their babies a healthy start. Donation bins are located in various business locations throughout the Treasure Valley. Items such as diapers, wipes and formula can be left in any one of the donation bins. I know these basic baby items may not seem like much of a donation to some of us… but these donations mean the world to the mother’s on the receiving end. These families are not only struggling to make ends meet, they’re often overwhelmed with the new baby in their life.
How Leap Photography Was Involved
I’ve donated items to the donation bins in the past for this event, so when I was approached about helping create images for marketing purposes my answer was YES!
I met up with a few team members from KIVI TV to brainstorm ideas for the photo shoot. After a lengthly discussion, we decided to photograph one of the families who had recently been a “Community Baby Shower” recipient.
The Photo Shoot
The family and the KIVI TV crew met me in the photo studio to capture the images. I total we 10 people running around my tiny studio. Although it was a little chaotic, and somewhat crowded at times, it was so much fun to photograph.
These little ones brought so much energy and excitement to the photo shoot. They were excited to photographed and to be a part of this promotional campaign. Honestly, It’s not often I have little ones who are so excited and ready for a photo session. These kids felt like starts and it shines through in their smiles.
All in all I feel we captured some great promotional shots! This post highlights just a few of my favorites from the day. There were so many good ones that it was honestly hard to narrow down to these images.
So… if you’re looking for a non-profit to donate your time or money to… Consider Community Baby Shower. It not only helps educate the mothers and provide much needed baby supplies, it also helps the mother’s set up a healthy environment for the children.
If you’ve been keeping up with our blog posts over the last few months you’ve noticed I’ve been talking a lot about business portraits. That’s because I’ve been helping a number of different companies update their look. I’ve been helping them create an up to date, professional look for their online and print marketing materials.
Block 22 Hotels
Earlier this year I met a few employees from Block 22 Hotels. They mentioned new business portraits were really needed for employees. It had been at least a few years since everyone was photographed and they really wanted to update there look.
The portraits were to be used both within the inner office messaging system and in web marketing materials. After a bit of discussion, it was decided that photographing the employees inside the hotel would work best.
Block 22 Hotels has a number of employees with very different job responsibilities. For individuals working in more specialized areas of the hotel, I photographed them in the area they spend most of their time. For example, restaurant staff were photographed in the kitchen and dining areas of the restaurant.
The lobby of the Grove Hotel was a great place to photograph all other employees. The wood details, in addition to the plush furniture and warm overhead lighting, created a perfect location to capture portraits of those employees with more generalized job responsibilities.
If you are looking for business portraits similar to this, consider an on-location session. Using your office or showroom floor as a backdrop will help set your headshots apart. The images will be more personalized and help your potential clients get an inside look at your business.

We’ve been updating employee headshots for a number of different companies in the past few months. All of these organizations have been updating their websites and looking for new images. The goal has been to bring a fresh new look to their online and printed literature. One way a business can accomplish this is by getting new portraits of all the employees.
J-U-B Engineering is just one of the companies who have reached out to me within the last few months. They have a number of locations throughout the northwest, with leadership teams located in different facilities. Earlier this spring they reached out inquiring about two things. My availability and to find out if I was willing to bring the photo studio to them. The leadership team was gathering in Boise for meetings. It was the perfect time to get everyone’s headshot up to date.
We decided on a location, and the background color to be used in advance of the photo day. To help better prepare employees, Leap Photography gave advice on clothing choices. This advice included information about recommended color selections and clothing styles.
The rest was up to the employees. But, as you can see they all did a great job of “keeping it simple” and kept their attire professional.
Leap Photography goes the extra mile!
One of the items/services we provide to all of the companies we photograph is a folder of images with “matching head sizes”.
Most companies will be displaying all their new headshots next to each other on a website. Having images that match in size gives your web page a nice clean, professional look.
Is it time for your company to update their “About Us” page?
If your “About” page is looking a little dated? Or maybe everyone’s photo is taken on different backgrounds. Consider giving Leap Photography a call. We can help you update your look. We’ll help select a photo background to compliment your company style and colors. Plus, we’ll make everyone look fabulous! It’s just what we do!
This spring Leap Photography has been helping companies freshen up their look by updating employee headshots. Spring is often a time of renewal and reinvention in the business world. New ideas might be implemented, new products introduced, or maybe the marketing department decides it’s time to update the website.
This is where Leap Photography steps in to help. Photographer Brenda Leap can help your company bring its online image up to date by creating new headshots of the entire team. We also do product photography… so don’t forget to ask about these photography services too.
If you’re just looking for headshot services, Leap Photography offers both studio headshots and on location portraiture. If you have 5 or more employees to be photographed, we can bring the studio to you. So no matter the finished style you are looking for in your images… we can help you create the desired look/feel.
Aviation Specialties Unlimited
Aviation Specialties is just one of the local companies we’ve recently had the pleasure to work with. You may remember we photographed a few people from this company in the past. They were being highlighted in a magazine article at the time. For that particular photo shoot, we used the airline hanger as a backdrop for the portraits. This time around, Leap Photography took the photo studio to Aviation Specialties. The entire staff was photographed. Company owners, sales reps, pilots, engineers, and the marketing department were all included.
For this project, the company was looking for a consistent look to all the portraits. After discussing a few options it was decided to move forward with studio style portraits on a white background. Leap Photography took over a conference room for the day and converted it into a photo studio. Employees trickled into the studio throughout the day, leaving their desks just long enough to have their portrait taken.
Does Your Business Need New Headshots?
If your company is considering updating your headshots… give us a call. We’d love to get to know about your company and help you create a new look.
Besides work experience and a resume, using professional headshots to help promote yourself for a new job or on your company website is a must!.
Before the internet, corporate America and Hollywood were the only industries requiring individuals to have an up to date, professional headshots. The internet has since come along and made information extremely accessible to anyone with a web connection.
Google Images is at our fingertips
If an individual wants to learn more about you or your company they now look no farther than their smartphone/computer. Information is literally at the consumer’s fingertips. Because of this, the first impression you often make is via the internet. Be it your company website, your LinkedIn profile or your social media pages, people are looking for information about you online. They are also looking for images of you.
Impressions are made about you/your company before a person even meets you or steps through your company doors. How many times have you done research about a company or looked up a new doctor before going in for your appointment? Your potential customers are doing the exact same thing. They’re researching you and your business.
First Impressions Count
Almost everyone has narrowed down their selection of whom to hire based on the headshot placed online. Maybe you felt a person’s photo made them look as if they would be easy to work with. Or, a stern expression on another person’s headshot gave you the impression they would be a tough lawyer. Although many factors do go into selecting whom you will hire, the headshot used on their website and sales literature do leave you with an impression about the person and their business.
Don’t Use a Selfie! Hire a Professional Photographer.
I know it’s easy to snap a selfie or ask a friend to take a quick photo on a cell phone. However, the lack of energy put into your selfie in comparison to having your headshot taken by a professional photographer can affect your business negatively. Investing a minimal amount of time and money into a good headshot can help show your prospective clients you take your business/job seriously. It leaves an impression you care about your business and in turn your potential clients.
This is where Leap Photography can step in to help you out. Our photographer, Brenda, can help recommend ideas for clothing, jewelry, hair, and makeup which will help you set yourself apart. She’ll ask you how you plan on using your headshot and recommend either a studio or an on-location portrait session. If a studio session is what you desire or what your company requires… Leap Photography has a number of different backgrounds on hand. We have a number of different colors and background styles available for use. Backgrounds range from contemporary solid colors to traditional canvas backgrounds.
So… what are you waiting for? Contact Leap Photography today to learn more.

As some of you who have been following Leap Photography already know… HEADSHOT Monday only comes around a few time a year. So if your LinkedIn profile or business website is in need of an up to date professional headshot… give Leap Photography a call.
What Is HEADSHOT Monday??
Here at Leap Photography, I photograph studio and on location head shots year round. Over the years I noticed an overwhelming number of people putting off updating their head shots. This occurs even though the image they are using is in dire need of being updated.
I here many excuses of why individuals have put off scheduling a portrait session, but usually it has to do with the time commitment. They feel that scheduling a portrait session will take to much time out of their busy schedule. They don’t want to do multiple clothing changes or they say to me…. “I only need one good image”. So… I’ve created HEADSHOT Monday with these individuals in mind.
HEADSHOT Monday sessions are designed with time efficiency in mind. The $85 price includes 1 outfit/clothing choice in addition to only being photographed on one background. You come into the photo studio and your studio portraits are completed in under an hours time. This includes sitting down with me and selecting your favorite image for use.
What Are You Waiting For?
So… what are you waiting for? You know the image you’ve been using doesn’t reflect the real you. Call Leap Photography today to update your business headshots.
This past fall I had the pleasure of photographing two lovely couples who had hit major milestones in their marriages. One couple was getting ready to celebrate their 50th Anniversary and the other their 60th Anniversary. If you ask me… Anniversary Portraits were most definitely in order!
Each couple reached out to me, inquiring if I even took anniversary photos. Both couples were looking for traditional studio portraits and were hoping I could photograph them as a couple.
As you can see… YES, I photograph couples in the photo studio. In fact, I enjoy it! Each of these couples were just so kind. Plus, it was so much such fun listening to them tell their stories on how they met. The giggles and looks between each couple about memories shared filled my heart with such joy. Each couple is an example of how working on problems together and talking them through are the key to a successful marriage.
Congratulations go out to each of these couples! Also, a huge THANK YOU for choosing Leap Photography to document this special milestone.

This post has been sitting in the holding tank for quite awhile. The portrait featured is of my parents and was taken way back in April of 2017. I don’t normally hold photos for this long before posting, but this image was intended as a Christmas Gift and I had to wait to post it for fear of ruining the surprise of their gift. Christmas has obviously come and gone and I think I’m completely safe to finally share this photo.
My parents had this portrait taken on their last stop through Boise. They were traveling through on their way back home from Arizona. Yep… they’re snow birds! While here, they asked if I’d take their portrait. I said heck yes! Yes, it’s true they’re my parents and I probably didn’t have much say in the matter, but the truth is I don’t think they’ve had a photo taken together since I was in high school. I don’t want to say how many years that’s been, but lets just say these two were way overdue on an updated portrait.
So finally… I introduce to you my parents. The two people who encouraged me to follow my talents and end up in this wonderful career of photography.
So… What’s Wrong With Using A Selfie On LinkedIN? And Why Do I Need To Have A Professional Headshot?
In today’s digital era if you own a business or are looking for a job… you need to put your best foot forward. Sure… having a great bio page or a rockin’ resume is helpful… but don’t forget potential customers and employers can now use the power of google to find out more about you. The first stop they often make is to check out your headshot. Judgements are made about you immediately, just by the image you use online to promote yourself.
With this said, why would you use a selfie or snapshot on LinkedIn or your company website? You want people to think of you as a professional. One who cares enough about them self and their business to use a professional portrait. Ideally, you need to be using a headshot which has been taken within the last 5 years. If you have lost weight, changed your hair color or maybe no longer sport those glasses from 1997… it’s time to upload a new portrait.
A Perfect Example Of Someone Who Needed An Updated Headshot.
The photos below of Kimberly fit these scenarios perfectly. The headshot she had been using was not only about 10 years old… she’d also lost a substantial amount of weight. She looked different. Her old portrait no longer reflected her current self. Plus the colors she was wearing in her old headshot did not look good with her current logo. It was time for an update and she called me to help her out with this.
When Kimberly came into the studio she showed me her current business card design with logo and branding colors. She also decided to wear clothing that incorporated colors from her business logo. The combination of her showing me her card design and wearing clothes which complimented her business colors, were very helpful. She now has a business card and website that reflect her brand brilliantly. Her business literature looks well thought out and professional.
So, if you are looking for a new job or way overdue for a headshot… give Leap Photography a call. We will talk about your vision and decide whether a studio or on location portrait session is best for you.
